*The notice period (aviso prévio) is advance notice that the contract is ending. On dismissal without cause, the worker is entitled to 30 days, plus 3 days per complete year of service, up to a maximum of 90 days (Law 12,506/2011). Notice can be worked, with reduced hours, or paid in lieu, without working.*

- Paid in lieu: paid without working and counts as length of service for vacation and the 13th salary (art. 487, §1).

Worked notice: your rights
- Choose the reduction: leave 2 hours early every day or stop working for the last 7 calendar days.
- No reduction in salary during the notice period.
- If the employer does not grant the reduction, the notice may be considered not given, with the right to a new payment.
- Proportional days: days beyond 30 are usually paid in lieu.
Notice when resigning
Someone who resigns must work 30 days' notice. If they do not, the employer can deduct the amount from what is owed. It is possible to negotiate a written waiver of the notice.
